Continuing Education and Competency Program
The CEC Program is designed to support and promote the ongoing professional development and competence of all registered dental hygienists.
CEC Requirements
All registrants are required to obtain a minimum of 36 credits over a rolling three-year period.
However, for those who renewed their registration in March 2024, a reduced requirement of 30 credits has been established. This adjustment reflects the introduction of the CEC program later in the year.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
Registrants are encouraged to use the designated fillable PDF forms to track their CEC activities:
These forms are for your personal records only and do not need to be submitted to CDHPEI. Registrants should retain these documents as part of their professional portfolio and be prepared to provide them only if selected for an audit.
The Request for Pre-determination of Program Credits must be submitted to CDHPEI 90 days prior to the commencement of an activity if you wish to confirm its eligibility for CEC credits. This form can be used to seek approval for activities not clearly outlined in the CEC guidelines.
Important Points to Remember
- Ensure you maintain accurate records of your CEC activities, including certificates, course agendas, and other supporting documentation.
- Keep all CEC records for a minimum of three years following the reporting period.
- CPR certification, while mandatory, is not eligible for Continuing Education and Competency credits.
